Notes GOVERNANCE CHANGE. Independent Private museum from 1979-1992. Local authority museum from 1992-2008. Independent Not for Profit museum from 2016. Collection assembled by Dennis Norton and opened as a museum in 1979. Norton decided that best way to safeguard the museum was to transfer it to the local authority, which happened in 1992. Visitor numbers decreased and the local authority decided to close the museum in 2008. Lengthy negotiations took place between the Council and Norton and ultimately a trust was set up and the council agreed to sell the building and collections to the Trust. The museum re-opened in 2016. Previously known as Bromsgrove Museum.
